I spent a lot of time writing and re-writing an "Everyday Make Up look" that was inspired by a Hannah Maggs video, but it never made its way onto the home page of my blog because I couldn't get it quite right. Then I left it for a while and thought: "I don't do that to my face everyday, that's why that post doesn't make sense to me"! And it could not have been more true. I do not wear make up everyday, and when I do, the amount I put on really depends on a lot of different factors: How much time I have, how I want to look, where I'm going, and also how much I care that day about what I look like. That being said, I decided to start from scratch and present to you different levels of "dolled-up" that can be achieved with some or all of the products in my current make-up kit.
1. "I could not care less"
Let's be honest, some times you just cannot be bothered with your face, wether you're staying home, or if you're going somewhere remotely important. On this type of day, I just think "screw it, people will just have to deal with my bare face today", and go completely make-up-free.
2. "I still want to feel human..."
On the days where I have less time (alarm clock not going off, or snooze button easily within reach), or on day where I want to give my skin a break, but still feel pretty when I walk passed a mirror, I use a combination of four or five products. Firstly, I will go through my eyebrows with pencil and gel (or just gel if I'm feeling lazy). At the moment I like using the Anastasia brow wiz, as it has a tiny point and great non-greasy texture, and the Benefit Gimme Brow, because it gives a bit more volume to my brows and darkens them a bit. The combination of the lighter pencil and darker gel gives the eyebrows more dimension, therefore making them look more natural. Then I apply the Benefit Roller Lash mascara on my top and bottom lashes, and brighten my under-eyes with the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer, as it has a very light coverage and good brightening qualities. I finish up this look with a bit of Mac Studio Fix powder all over my face to set the concealer and keep the rest of my skin somewhat shine-free for the day.
3. "Feeling fancy, but tight on time"
For those days where I wish I could spend hours playing with my make-up, but only have 10 minutes to do it. I begin with the Smashbox Photo Finish primer, to keep the products actually on my face all day. Then, I go a bit crazy with my concealer and apply it to my under-eyes, and all the way down to my cheek bones, in a triangular shape. I also apply it to the bridge of my nose, chin, corner of my mouth and middle of my forehead, and blend it all in with a dense brush. I then go on and powder all of my face, because I tend to get quite oily during the hot summer days. Now, it's time for the same eyebrow pencil and gel, and mascara as before. The last two things I use for this look are the Body Shop Honey bronzer, and the MAC Mineralize blush in Dainty.
4. "I want to feel like a beauty youtuber"
That's when I really use it all. I either managed to get up early enough, or I'm going somewhere special and have all the time in the world to get ready. I start up with primer, but instead of going straight for concealer, I mix the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation with a little bit of the Nars Copacabana illuminator. I swipe it on with a small buffing brush, and blend it in with a bigger one. Then, it's my whole "concealer, powder, brows" routine, and before going onto mascara, I apply either black or blue liquid liner (L'Oréal Super Slim liner in black, or Kat Von D Ink liner in Beaudelaire). I usually top this complete look off with the Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss, or the Burt's Bees tinted lip balm in Rose, and when all of this is done, I give my face a few sprays of Mac Fix Plus.
There you have it, the four stages of my laziness when it comes to putting my face on in the morning. I wanted to write a post like this, with that particular title, exactly because you do not have to put your face on in the morning. When I do any of those looks, it is simply for me and because of how I want to feel on that day. I love make up, and I love playing around with it, but it should never feel like you have to wear it everyday. Also, if you concoct yourself a make up kit, you don't have to use every single product in it, everyday! Make up is a form of expression, and it should vary with your mood and your personality. Make up is what you make of it, so try and make it fun!
